Annual Town Council Meeting, 13 May 2025
At the Annual Council Meeting, Cllr Jon Weston was elected as Town Mayor for the next 12 months, with Cllr Dickie Fletcher as Deputy Mayor. Cllr Weston thanked the outgoing Mayor, Cllr Judy Snowball, for her hard work for the town throughout her mayoral year.
The meeting was updated by Cheshire East Cllr Ken Edwards on ongoing efforts to retain some type of Household Waste Recycling facility in or very near Bollington. The Town Council continues to work closely with Cllr Edwards on seeking an acceptable outcome.
The Town Council reviewed its structure of committees and working groups, to ensure the best use is being made of councillors’ available time. Although it was decided to discontinue the Business working group, the Council demonstrated its continuing commitment to the town’s businesses by appointing Cllr Dickie Fletcher to the new role of Business Champion.
After considerable debate, the Council voted to discontinue its Transport & Travel working group, while recognising that the group may wish to continue its useful work – but as a freestanding body not under the Council’s auspices.
After a long period of negotiating the exact contractual terms, the Town Council declared itself content to sign the formal Agreement drawn up with Cheshire East Council whereby, as agreed by Bollington residents in 2024, the Town Council will fund Cheshire East for the next 5 years to not introduce on Pool Bank carpark the parking charges which now apply at all the rest of Cheshire East’s carparks.
After a long period without a permanent Town Clerk, the Council was delighted that Ruth Burgess has now been appointed permanently (joining us from Congleton Town Council), and we look forward to welcoming her when she starts in post next month.
