A First for the Council
Bollington Town Council held it first virtual Council meeting on Tuesday 21st April at 7pm which saw councillors and staff meeting using by MS Teams Conferencing. Three members of the public also participated by video or phone.
The Council will continue to hold all its Council and Committee meetings by this means for the duration of the pandemic.
All our meetings are published on our website and notice boards and if anyone wishes to attend by video or just voice then please let us know by telephoning to the Council’s usual telephone number 01625 572985 or by emailing our usual email address email@example.com. We will then provide you with simple joining instructions to the meeting via your internet browser or just your land line or mobile telephone.
Over the last year the Town Council has been reviewing its resilience to any event which could cause the Town Council to lose the use of the Town Hall. We did not envisage a pandemic but the intensive work put in by Council staff has prepared the Town Council very well, with all our data being on the Cloud accessible securely from any location, telephone calls to the Town Council which can be distributed anywhere via the internet and video conferencing. This has allowed the Council to be fully compliant with new Government regulations enacted late last month which legalise virtual Council meetings and require, quite rightly, public participation at such meetings.
In parallel The Council has been working very hard in terms of the Community Support Scheme which is providing help to the vulnerable in Bollington and those self isolating. This has seen a huge volunteer effort from the community and we thank you all very much for that. It was a daunting task which could not fail and thanks also to the Bollington Resilience Action Group and Facebook which has allowed the scheme to flourish and become largely self sustaining.
Working remotely is a new discipline for us all but as far as we are concerned it is business as usual – well almost!
We look forward to the time when we can see each other face to face very soon. In the meantime keep safe.
Incidentally, have you ever tried making sure that one person is happy with a photograph of themselves. Well don’t try it with 16 like the one above!
