ECR Footpaths Projects - Reconstruction of Footpath 22

A massive project to reconstruct the steps on FP 22 which runs from Shrigley Rise down towards Ingersley Road has been undertaken by the East Cheshire Ramblers Volunteer group led by Brian Richardson.Footpath 22 Before2 Footpath 22Before

The Footpaths Committee of the Town Council had been aware that there was a problem with these steps for some years. Previous repair work had not lasted because of the amount of water which runs down the path had caused severe erosion. The Public Rights of Way Officer, Evan Pedley offered to approach the ECR volunteer group to see if they could come up with a more permanent fix.

Footpath 22The reconstruction has been a major engineering project and the volunteers have worked tirelessly to move tonnes of materials to rebuild the steps and overcome the steep gradient. Read the full story here.

Bollington Town Council was able to make a contribution towards the cost of materials from its annual budget with some materials being supplied by Cheshire East Council and the largest proportion of the costs being met by the Ramblers own budget.

We would like to thank Brian and his team for the many hours of hard work they put in and the neighbours on Shrigley Rise for their cooperation. We think this looks great and just in time for the Walking Festival too!
