Bollington Town Council hold their first virtual Annual Meeting and Mayor Making Ceremony

In an historic moment for the town, local councillors, past mayors and civic dignitaries gathered around devices in their own homes and joined Bollington Town Council via Microsoft Teams to witness the election of the new Town Mayor of Bollington on 5th May 2020.

The current Covid-19 crisis forced a change in legislation to allow local councils to meet virtually in order to continue their work and Bollington Town Council were ready to lead the way.

Councillor John Cadman Stewart was appointed as Town Mayor for the civic year 2020/2021 in the presence of The Mayor of Cheshire East, Cllr. Barry Burkhill, the Mayor of Knutsford, Cllr. Andrew Malloy, the Mayor of Congleton, Cllr. Sally Ann Holland, the Deputy Mayor of Macclesfield, Cllr. Sarah Bennett-Wake and Mr David Rutley M.P.

Councillor Stewart joined Bollington Town Council in July 2019 and represents East Ward, having lived in Bollington for nearly 20 years. Councillor Stewart has three sons, one of whom, Hadley, is an A&E nurse in a London hospital. His younger sons, James and Olly, attend Tytherington High.

Councillor Johanna Maitland was elected as Deputy Mayor and also represents East Ward and Revd. Canon Veronica Hydon, St. Oswald’s Church Bollington, was appointed as the Town Mayor’s Chaplain.

Luca Allbright becomes the Mayor’s Youth Consort and will be invested with his pendant at an event to be held as soon as the situation permits, where formal thanks will also be given to the retiring Mayor’s Youth Consort, Annie James.
