Latest Bayleaf Planning Application
The Bayleaf Restaurant and Supermarket was approved at the Northern Area Committee on 13th September by 7 votes for to 5 votes against.
It is dissappointing that Highways have consistently recommended approval throughout a process which has seen many highway improvements added. We now have a safer car park with a clear and wide route to and from the store. On the downside we still have the road courtesy crossings but these may prove to be better than no crossings at all. Their raised profile should cause traffic to slow down. More footfall may benefit the existing retail units but this may be tempered by parking issues. The Grimshaw Lane junction will be busier and we all may have to wait a little longer at peak times when passing through the Town. The new store will provide competition for the Co-op and may give those living next to it a bit more peace. Who knows - all we know is we are going to have another store the size of the Co-op in Bollington with a restaurant above it. We do not know what the Bayleaf will do during the construction phase but many in Bollington will miss them but I am sure they will travel to wherever they temporarily relocate to.
This was the the third attempt by the developer to have this application approved - this time by submitting revised plans. This showed that the developer was listening and includes a footway from the car park to the store although it is in our opinion too narrow at 900mm. Also the road into the car park between Barrows Butchers and the proposed store has been widened.
Other than these changes, a whole host of highway safety issues still existed ansd we again revised our objection submission to emphasise them.
