Work is being done at the Atax Field to improve drainage within the Bollington Cross Youth Project

Work is currently being carried out on the new football pitches as the concluding part of the Bollington Cross Youth Project (The Atax Field). This is to improve the drainage. CLS the contactor has carried out a full risk assessment in terms of social distancing. The maintenance of sports fields is a permitted activity.

It is ideal time, during this dry spell, to carry out this work and to have the pitches ready for later in the year when, hopefully, the lockdown will have been appropiately eased to allow some football to be played. The work involves deep slitting of the surface and the injection of sharp sand. It will be followed by the addition of 80 tonnes of top dressing sand.

As local people will know, the field has allways had drainage problems and this was recognised in the contingency sums appied to the project to deal with this issue. The underlying drainage matrix is coping with the water but the issue is the speed with which water can travel through the ground from the surface to the underlying drainage during heavy rain. The work is likely to be complete by early next week.
