The Planning Process

Responsibility for granting planning permission lies with local planning authorities , usually the planning department of the district or borough council.

For Bollington this is Cheshire East Council. Cheshire East Council upload all applications onto their website and you can search for a planning application by full address, town or reference number if you know it.

Bollington Town Council is invited to comment on applications relating to land or property within the town or those that may have an impact on our infrastructure.

The Planning Officer must take into account the relevant Planning Legislation, from the National Planning Policy Framework and the Cheshire East Council Local Plan, to the Bollington Neighbourhood Plan.

Bollington Town Councillors meet once a month to review and comment on the latest applications. Where the comments deadline falls before the next planning meeting the application is added to the full council meeting agenda for consideration.

Forthcoming meetings are advertised in advance and agendas are available to view. Members of the public can attend/join the meetings and are allowed to speak with the permission of the chair about any application.

You can find out more on Cheshire East Council’s Guide on How to Comment on a Planning Application page. This includes a list of material issues which can be taken into account by the Planning Officer (and some that cannot).
